Here Is Simple HVAC Advice Not Found Elsewhere Online

Posted on April 28, 2019March 16, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

Since your home’s HVAC system is quite important, you really don’t want it going bad. Chances are, you’re interested in learning more about your HVAC system. Use the tips below as part of your game plan for keeping your HVAC system in working order for as long as you can.

Before you contact people to assist you in getting your system fixed, know what kind of system you’re working with in the first place. Write down what brand your system is along with the model number and, if they’re available, maintenance records. This will enable you to give your chosen contractor any information they might need.

Clean the coils on the condenser fan from time to time. First, turn off the power so that nothing will move as you are working on it. Pull out each of the blades and clean them one by one.

Try to prevent debris from getting in your HVAC unit. When you see nearby trees shedding their leaves, clean the fan grill on your unit constantly. The fan needs unobstructed air flow, and if debris is blocking this air flow, then your system could suffer.

You must keep your HVAC systems oil ports lubricated annually. They generally have a rubber or metal cap on them. Put about ten drops or less of a good non-detergent SAE 20 oil into each port.

Make sure you have your HVAC system checked at least twice a year. The normally recommended time for HVAC system inspections is once before the peak cooling season when it gets hot and you’ll be using your AC, and once before the peak heating season, during the cold months when you’re likely to be using your heat. A quick check is worth it to avoid problems down the road.

Turn off outdoor condenser units when weather turns cold. Avoid damaging the unit by turning it off when the outdoor temperature drops below 60 degrees. This will allow your system to work well every year, and that saves you quite a bit on making repairs.

One great way to save some cash when you’re working on keeping a home cool is to install a thermostat that’s programmable. This will help you to keep the temperature at optimal levels. Plus, some models allow you to control them over the internet or from a smartphone.

Turn your AC off if no one is at home. With the system off, the house will only heat up to a certain temperature. When the AC is left running, your power bill will go up quite a bit.

Do not allow your house to get extremely hot. Air conditioners cannot sufficiently cool down unreasonably high temps. A home that is over one hundred degrees will only be cooled to around eighty. Taking into consideration the humidity level, this may not even be adequate for the human body to recover from excessive heat while sleeping.

As you’ve read, you should care for your HVAC system so that it does not go bad. As with other household repairs, HVAC repairs can be very expensive. Don’t let this happen; work on using the advice you were given above.…
