Learn How To Get HVAC Issues Taken Care Of

Posted on June 19, 2019March 16, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

Optimal efficiency is the goal for anyone with an HVAC. A poorly functioning HVAC system can end up costing the homeowner a lot of money. To help you understand how to keep your HVAC in good working condition, the article below has many good ideas and solid tips, so keep reading!

If your condenser units are outisde, make sure any debris is cleaned from them regularly. Things tend to pile up around these units, especially after storms come through, which could cause problems to your system. It can overheat, leading to disaster within your system.

Cover your unit when you are mowing the lawn. Make sure the grass does not get in your unit. This includes grass clippings and leaves.

If the fan on your condenser includes oil ports, they must be lubricated annually. These ports are often covered by a rubber or metal cap. Use a lightweight oil and do not overfill them.

To increase the efficiency of your HVAC unit, be sure to keep it in the shade. As your air conditioner sucks in cool air, little will have to be done to cool it any further, saving you a ton on your energy bills.

Have the HVAC system checked twice a year at the least. This should be done in the fall and again in the spring. Even though it may seem as nothing is wrong with the unit, a simple inspection can prove otherwise.

When the weather starts to cool down, make sure you turn off outdoor condenser units. If the outside temp is under 60 degrees, turn the unit off to prevent damage. This can keep your system working for years and save you a lot on repairs.

If you are a homeowner, or if you can get permission from your landlord, install double-paned windows in place of any single panes in your home. Double pane windows can help minimize how much you use your air conditioner in the summer, because they keep cool air inside the home. This same effect also keeps warm air in during the winter months.

Shop around before hiring an HVAC contractor. A good start would be the BBB to see if there are any complaints, then search online for review sites where you can see what actual customers had to say about their experience. Take these steps to ensure you make wise choices.

Sometimes air conditioners will ice up. The drain line also occasionally freezes, which can be misdiagnosed as a plumbing leak. If you see this, immediately put your thermostat on the fan setting to turn off your compressor. Get a professional to deal with this, even if you see the ice start melting because you turned the compressor off.

Look online for a/c sizing calculators so you can really understand the unit size needed for your home or room. If you buy a unit that’s too large, it won’t be energy efficient for your needs. Any unit’s manual will be able to give you an accurate idea for the size of the unit versus your home.

Now you know a lot about HVAC, so you can ensure yours stays running for many years. You certainly don’t want it to break on you. Use these handy tips to keep your HVAC system running for as long as possible.…
