Simple HVAC Strategies You Can’t Go On Without

Posted on January 30, 2018March 16, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

Solid HVAC systems give homeowners peace of mind, while shaky ones provide headaches. They can be costly to repair and can lead to miserable living conditions. Below, you will find tips to help you properly maintain your HVAC system so that you don’t ever have to go without it.

Know what work you want done before you select an HVAC contractor. You can’t get a decent estimate over a telephone, so disregard those numbers and wait until they view your system. Getting an estimate will be even more difficult if you cannot adequately describe the problem. Thus, it is worthwhile to have this knowledge ahead of time.

To make sure your condenser fan works properly, keep the fan blades and the coils clean. Except when you do superficial cleaning, you need to always make sure the power is off on the unit. In addition, be sure to get rid of any leaves or other debris that may have accumulated on the outside condenser.

Regularly remove debris from outside condenser units. Excess debris can really affect your system’s quality. It can get overheated, which will cause problems with the whole system.

Make sure your condenser fan is in good working order by wiping down the fan blades and the coils. Turn it off first so you don’t get hurt or break something. Then, remove the grill, then remove the blades and begin the cleaning process of the blades and the unit.

Make sure clippings don’t get on your outdoor units when your mowing your lawn. When you work with your lawn mower, make sure it spits the grass to the side opposite of your unit. This applies when you are taking care of the leaves in the yard.

In order for your new unit to be as efficient as possible, or to make older units more efficient, make sure it’s put in a shaded area. You save money this way because the air conditioner is now pulling in cooler air, which is easier to cool further.

When it gets cold outside, turn off the outdoor condensers. The unit will become damaged if you do not take care of it. You’ll pay less for repairs which you follow this tip.

Make sure to have your unit serviced once a year. When it’s checked out, the motor will be inspected, moving parts well oiled and the level of freon adjusted if necessary. These simple tasks will help keep your HVAC system running smoothly.

Never let your home reach a dangerously hot temperature. Even the best air conditioners can only realistically cool your home approximately 20 degrees Farenheit. So, if your home temp reaches 100 degrees, your air conditioning will only bring that temp down to about 80 degrees. You may suffer adverse effects from letting the house get that hot, too.

The HVAC in your house is a vital part of your daily life whether you know it or not. Without maintenance, you may find yourself very uncomfortable. Never let this happen to you; keep in mind all the advice here to make sure that your HVAC system is providing you good air.…
