The Best Advice For Buying HVAC Equipment

Posted on July 2, 2018March 16, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

Most people are not fraught with knowledge when it comes to HVAC. If so, when a problem occurs it can be frustrating. Thankfully, this article will show you the ropes.

Clean your fan and coils when the weather begins to warm. Make sure your power is off before doing more than cleaning, such as working on the unit. Additionally, remove leaves and any other debris from the outside condenser unit.

When you cut the grass, make sure your mower isn’t tossing clippings toward your outdoor units. Direct the clippings away from the equipment. The same should happen if you are blowing leaves, so be especially careful when you are going by your exterior HVAC devices whenever you are moving debris.

Your HVAC system could suffer when trees begin dropping their leaves. When the leaves fall from nearby trees, clean the grill of your fan often. An obstruction, such as a leaf, prevents the maximum amount of cool air from entering the system.

If the condenser fan has oil parts, then you need to lubricate it at least once per year. You will notice these ports have a rubber or metal cap covering them. Use a lightweight oil and do not overfill them.

When you are choosing a location for the outdoor compressor unit, it’s preferable to use a shaded area. This will limit the work that it has to do.

Turn off any outdoor condensers you have when the weather gets cold. This means that you should turn it off to prevent damage if the weather falls under 60 degrees Farenheit. This will ensure your system stays in good working order every year, saving you money on costly repairs.

Keep energy costs from rising by having your system serviced annually. During the visit, the contractor will oil parts, inspect the motor and the freon levels. Doing this simple task can ensure that your system will be running for years with no problem!

Make sure that your AC is turned off when you are not using it. Sure, the temp will rise, but no one is home anyway. Leaving it on all the time only makes it work harder and results in a larger utility bill.

Shop around before hiring an HVAC contractor. Check with the BBB and online reviews as well. Doing this makes it more likely that you choose wisely..

Look for sizing calculators based on the air conditioner you have to figure out how big of a unit you need in your home. A unit that is bigger than you need simply isn’t efficient. Always look through the manual as well.

Speak with someone close to you to see if they can recommend someone good to service their HVAC unit. Someone who has used a contractor in the past is generally willing to let you know what they thought about it. This will also provide you with good information on which contractors you should avoid hiring.

Having an HVAC break is something nobody wants to have happen. But, taking time to study the topic makes the process much easier. Keep the information from this article handy so you can solve and issues that arise quickly and at a reasonable cost.
