You Can Handle All Your HVAC Woes Easily With The Help Of This Article

Posted on November 4, 2018March 16, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

Most homeowners want an HVAC system that works well. If they buy a low quality one or have one that breaks, it can be very frustrating. They can be costly to repair, but living in discomfort is not an option. It is best to maintain your HVAC system properly, and tips in that regard are found below.

If your HVAC is running into problems, check out each room in your house before calling for assistance. Find out which rooms are hot and which are cold. The contractor can probably figure out and fix the problem easier.

Keep your outdoor units free of debris when your cutting grass. Shoot grass the other way. The same goes for blowing leaves, so always be careful if you are moving debris near your HVAC devices.

Lubricate the oil ports on your condenser once each year. You can find these ports covered with rubber or metal caps. Use SAE 20 oil that is non-detergent and lightweight, and put 10 drops or fewer in each port, but make sure to avoid overfilling them.

In order to boost efficiency, place new outdoor units or move your current unit to a place which resides in the shade. As you get your air conditioner to suck in cool air it won’t have to do too much work to cool it which saves you some money.

Your system should be checked twice a year. Check into it twice a year before you head into the hot and cold months. Even if you do not detect a problem, you can identify and fix any potential problems when you have it checked.

When it gets cold outside, turn off the outdoor condensers. To avoid damage, units should be turned off when temperatures are below 60 degrees. This can keep your HVAC running and can save you money on repairs.

If you own your own home or have permission from your landlord, replace your single pane windows with double paned versions. To keep your home cool, investing in double pane windows is a must. They help in the winter, too, keeping the heat in.

To help keep your energy costs down, have your heating and cooling system serviced at least once a year. The motor should be checked, the parts oiled and the freon levels inspected. These few simple things will help your system to run at its peak performance.

Make sure that your AC is turned off when you are not using it. When you turn it off, the house heats up, but only to a certain threshold. Leaving it on for the entire day means that it is struggling to keep things cool, something that takes lots of energy.

It is possible for air conditioners to ice over. Many times people think there is a plumbing leak, but instead the drain line has water that is frozen. If this happens, disable the compressor by switching the thermostat to run the fan only. The ice will melt. You will likely need professional help to stop the problem.

The HVAC system in your home is a key component to a comfortable setting. Your home will not be livable without a well maintained HVAC system. Take these tips to heart and never forget about your HVAC system.
